Selecting a place to spend your next holiday can be a daunting task. You look forward to it all year long, and your expectations for a perfect trip are probably very high. You can not afford a letdown. It is important to remember that you can make or break your holiday before you even pack your bags, so you will want to be picky by planning a trip that caters to your interests. You must decide what you want: beaches, educational, or sporty? Travelers looking for some fun in the sun often opt for someplace tropical, while museum dwellers flock to spots like Scotland and Ireland. Action enthusiasts are apt to find the best ski slopes and bike paths around. Tenerife, however, is a rare destination that appeals to all tastes.

The largest of Spain’s seven Canary Islands, Tenerife has been a tourist hot spot since the late 1800′s, attracting about 5 million visitors annually. With its rugged volcanic landscape, the island boasts some of the most scenic views imaginable. The snow-capped Teide volcano – a stunning geographical giant – casts an imposing presence at more than 12,000 feet above sea level. Because of a succession of eruptions, it was responsible for the formation of Tenerife nearly 12 million years ago. Today, its capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is its largest metropolitan center.

Coast-of-TenerifeTourism is the island’s top industry, and much of the tourist influx takes place in the southern region where beaches and luxury resorts consume the area. Costa Adeje, for example, is home to golf courses, shopping hubs, and miles of white sandy beaches. The north of Tenerife is greener and more agricultural. Some visitors enjoy the region for its quaint fishing ports and adventurous terrain, but generally the economical boom is felt more in the south of the island. Tenerife can accommodate any holiday, whether you’d rather spend all your time in a bathing suit, or in a pair of hiking boots with binoculars in hand.
